i've just been watching a youtube video that reveals the new assembly hall in orangeburg, sc.. two things struck me when watching it.... firstly, everything is attributed to jehovah, right down to deciding the location where the hall is to be built.
"we examined over 300 properties," said one interviewee, "we were reminded that jehovah knew where the site was, we just had to keep looking and show him that we were persistent.
" other workers interviewed throughout the video attribute everything to god, as though it is impossible to build anything without divine direction.. here is the video.... .

Cart witnessing is a joke. It is so easy to "get your time in" now its pathetic. Pioneer hours are 50. "campaigns" of handing out tracts let even the most pathetically ignorant of scripture individual run around grabbing hours and auxillary pioneering. Its just a way to coax people into "staying busy" in Jehovahs organization.
These carts are a complete joke. In the busiest places.....I could be around them for a couple hours, with 2-3 people maning them.......with not one single person approaching.

so i'm sitting in public area, reading the end of faith (it's pretty clear sam harris is making a case against faith and not some generalized version of islam, so i don't get all those misplaced objections...), and i just heard a group of people sing a birthday song.. i was surprised.
but not because someone was singing a birthday song.
i was surprised because of my reaction.. i wish i could say my reaction was normal, but it wasn't.
Ugh....all of the above. I celbrate my kids birthday.....and feel "dirty" for lack of a better term. My wife did something for my 34th, and it was weird feeling (fun.....but weird).
Anything patriotism related I feel odd. I feel against the military for some reason, which is a bit silly.
More than anything, as an adult I deal with strange issues of feeling embarrassed or shame. Over next to nothing mind you. I think its because if I lied, messed around with a girl, swore, or pretended I was normal in school and took a valentine, I felt Jehovah was disappointed and possibly gong to kill me. So dread and shame were a constant.
I know better. i reason myself out of it. Even when i feel it i am aware of why......but its still there in the background.

i realize this is odd, but a "how you woke up" thread and the personal stories that are told which i know we all enjoy, made me think of this.
in helping my wife and a couple others get the ball rolling, i realized the thing that resonated with me, didn't even move the needle with them.
i wanted to rail on and on about blood, because that was my conduit to waking up, but for my wife it was about shunning.

Phizzy - So many leave later in life. Are we doomed to leave only when we are despondent and have nothing left to give the org? Feeling betrayed? Or can we (meaning others) wake up in their 20's and early 30's....still with a life to be had ahead of them! Think.......so many of the things we would have had as potential issues (Mexico/Malawai, 1975, etc...), won't even be on the radar of the kids turning 20 now. they will have never heard of it. Its all about "russian ban".

Poebe - Thanks for that. I totally get you. Your "brick" was basically a feeling that kept you safe....being ripped out. there is so much contradictory information from the branch, its staggering. You should read "scratchme's" response on page 1. I think it applies to you specifically and was well written.
mentalclarity - I wish I could say I didn't buy it. I was young at the time of the Revelation book, but I totally bought it. 7 trumpets...and there were 7 conventions!? That totally makes sense! Blood didn't bother you, but it was my first "loose brick" in my mind that helped me see to the other side. Shunning, like some others, didn't move the needle for me, but for my wife.....it was paramount. Taking a stand against "independent research" was another. During my "exit interview" as I call it since I stopped being a servant and changed halls to fade, 5 count them FIVE elders had a meeting with me, and they brought out the ministry school article about independent study groups critiquing or studying the NWT. I told myself I would not speak during the meeting (they were baiting me.......that was the entire purpose)....but I asked.....guys why are we reading this article. I have no affiliation or knowledge of any such group. Are you just trying to paint a picture of my character to the new brothers that doesn't coalesce with the truth? How stupid do you think they and I are?" They asked me to hold my comments until the end. At the end, the 3 guys from my old hall I looked at and said you guys suck, and don't qualify to have a puppy much less shepherd the congregation. My letters on you guy are on file at the branch, so you better not screw up. (one has been removed since)
